Lead-free Crystals?

It's important to buy any baby and children's jewellery which contains crystals, from a reputable retailer. Many cheap crystals contain doses of lead which are unhealthy for children under 12. We've all seen the racks of very cute, sparkly children's jewellery, even baby jewellery, in the department stores. Often leaded paint is used, and often leaded crystals are used. These baby and children's jewellery items are usually imported and customs has cracked down heavily on them, but I have no doubt some dangerous metals used in kids' jewellery are let into Australia. Often other toxic-to-children metal alloys are used as well. These items are very cheap and very tempting - I admit this jewellery would appeal to most little girls, but I would be very wary.
