WHAT TO CONSIDER WHEN SELECTING CHILDREN'S EARRINGS

When selecting earrings for children things to consider include:

  • Always choose earrings that are nickel free as children's ears are very sensitive. In many countries, earrings sold for children must not contain nickel. But some cheaper earrings in the marketplace, do.
  • Gold, sterling silver, titanium and surgical steel are the best choices for children.
  • Screw back earrings, when screwed on squarely and tightly, are the most secure (less likely to become lost.)
  • Avoid larger, long, dangly earrings for children. These overwhelm a small face and, if very long, they can easily get caught.
  • Gold, in particular 18k gold, is very soft, so very careful handling is required, particularly the thin rod, which can bend easily.
